As part of the policies of the Federal Governement of Nigeria, Federal Government Colleges, were established to foster peace and unity amongst the nation's youths. Thus on the 6th of February, 1966, Federal Government College ,Sokoto was established alongside two others (Okposi and Warri). Here began the regime of the Federal unity colleges as they came to be known. After so many challenges that beset the active take-off of these schools, the Federal Unity colleges became a reality. Today there are more than forty Federal Unity Colleges in the country. Federal Government College, Sokoto is now more than thirty years old. Looking back one can say that the ideas of the founding fathers have lived through these decades and of course every student who passed through the college will agree that it is a model college to all others in the country. The foundation Principal of the College Dr P.H Davis was right when he said that the school was destined to become the best amongst the best. Today Fegosok can hold her head high, the peculiarities notwithstanding. This a community where our youths are trained to become the ideal leaders of tomorrow. The college can boast of graduates in virtually all fields of human endeavour. Over the years students of the college have been able to make impact in state , zonal, national and inter-national competitions. No doubt the college has had her own share of problems and impediments but these have gone a long way in making her stronger and more determined. As the saying goes "Aluta Continua". |
